Congratulations, you've found our secret menu. Here you can find products which don't fit in, are oddball, we can't produce in large volume, don't have the level of polish we expect from our standard line of products, are experimental, are pet projects, etc. Keep an eye on this space as we don't advertise it, and you never know what you'll find here, but don't forget this page exists for you: our loyal fans and customers.
Levitas, latin for lightness or fleetness of foot, is a fitting name for this moderator. At only 120x35mm and 50 grams, it is very small and light, yet offers the sound attenuation of a much larger and heavier moderator. The core is manufactured from an ultra light weight, strong, and solvent resistant 20% high modulus carbon fiber reinforced nylon. (nylon alone is what Glock frames are made out of) It attaches via a 1/2-20UNF thread.
This moderator is the culmination of extensive design and testing, the goal of which is to make the most effective moderator in the world for its size and weight. Our FX Crown specific designs were so successful, we had to bow to requests for a universal 1/2-20UNF version. More information about the lengthy, and ongoing, development process can be found in our blog series. The basic premise of the design though is to use Nikola Tesla’s Gas Diode to reflex air back on itself and stop forward flow in the moderator.
This is our most efficient design yet. It utilizes a three stage system first stripping the air off the pellet, second stopping (delaying) the air with a compound gas diode, then muffling the sound that creates with a damping system. Most moderator designs focus on one of two capabilities, either sound wave damping or flow delaying, and this is copied the entire length of the moderator. Why though should the sound and flow at the back of the moderator be the same as at the front? It didn't make sense to us either, thus the design adapts along its length to maximize efficiency and minimize size and weight, a mere 50 grams. An optional stainless steel thread insert enhances thread durability and adds 3 grams, increasing the total mass by 6%.
This product is intended for AIRGUN USE ONLY! It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its design intent. More information about the federal court ruling which clarified the legality of airgun moderators within the United States can be found HERE. Local restrictions may still apply. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure they are in compliance with all applicable laws. United States Orders Only!
It would be absurd to think one moderator design would produce optimized sound attenuation for all levels of air flow. Based on our test platforms, we’re optimizing for two different clearly stated power/flow situations. We recommend you select the moderator which most closely matches your own application in order to maximize effective sound attenuation. To be clear, ALL OF OUR DESIGNS WORK ON ALL OF THESE TEST INSTANCES, but the optimized ones will produce better sound attenuation. Additional information to help you select which moderator is right for your application can be found on the Moderator Configuration & Application Optimization page. All our moderator bores are 8.4mm. Larger diameter bores are available upon request.
Standard - Optimized on a shrouded FX Crown .22 producing 32 foot pounds. In factory configuration with extended shroud, average peak is 288
Moderate - Optimized on a shrouded FX Crown .30 producing 80 foot pounds. In factory configuration with extended shroud, average peak is 637.6
Levitas trace (standard flow) as tested on a shrouded FX Crown .22 showing the low peak and quick (for volume) taper to background. Average peak was 60.4.
Levitas trace (moderate flow) as tested on a shrouded FX Crown .30 showing respectable sound attenuation given its diminutive size, though it is the loudest moderator we offer by a substantial margin. Average peak was 223.3. (Y axis scale differs from the .22 trace)
