Brevitas Moderator
Brevitas Moderator
Brevitas, latin for brevity, conciseness, shortness, smallness, narrowness and so forth. The ideal attributes for an airgun moderator, and the perfect name for one coming in at less than 30 grams, 74mm in length and 28mm in diameter. (less than 3 inches long and an ounce for you Imperial types) No, there were no typos in those measurements, those are the accurate specifications, it really is about the size of a fat tube of chapstick. (custom threads are possible, contact us if you have a specific application)
Airgun moderators can be made quieter quite easily as they get larger and heavier, designs are innately a balancing act between size and performance. Circling back to where things began, the Levitas and earlier, the challenge was to use new materials and manufacturing technologies to push the limits of practical and effective sound mitigation even smaller. The basic premise of the design though remains the same, which is to use Nikola Tesla’s Gas Diode to reflex air back on itself and stop forward flow in the moderator. In this case, three teenie weenie gas diodes, were crammed inside, and that is it. The inside surfaces are patterned and textured to reduce weight, increase strength, and damp sound. Suggested bores are 1.5mm larger diameter than their respective caliber, so ensure your mount has proper concentricity with your barrel! (or order the next size up) This design was intended to function on the end of an already shrouded gun, such as the test hosts: FX Crowns. Without effective reflex volume, this design simply lacks the internal volume to produce great results. In terms of report, this design is obviously not whisper quiet, and was never meant to be. It does however do an impressive job attenuating sound for its size and weight. Put another way, it is more effective at sound attenuation than the factory FX shroud fully extended, while being half the length. As can be seen in the below traces, the initial peak is markedly reduced. Without the additional length for sound absorbing materials, these do produce a noticeable “whoosh.” In this size, length, and weight class though, nothing else yet tested compares.
Every moderator is made to order, a process which takes two weeks. All moderator designs are considered experimental, however this one is particularly so. From the design to the manufacturing to the materials, nothing like this has been tried before. If you aren’t interested in playing with something entirely experimental, please choose another moderator.

Maximum rated Flow Factor 2,100
Tested on a shrouded FX Crown .22 producing 32 foot pounds. In factory configuration with extended shroud, average peak is 288. With the Brevitas installed and shroud retracted (approximately half the length), average peak is 162.
Tested on a shrouded FX Crown .30 producing 80 foot pounds. In factory configuration with extended shroud, average peak is 637.6. With the Brevitas installed and shroud retracted (approximately half the length), average peak is 609.3.
